VITAMIN D – Why is it so important?

Why is it so important?

- Strengthens Bones, especially with added Calcium

- Protects children against Diabetes Type 1

- Protects against High Blood Pressure

- Protects against greater levels of Pain

- Protects against Cancer

- Improves Physical performance

People in Europe and children especially are the most deficient

The most common source of supplemental Vitamin D is from irradiated animal fat or cattle brains. Our food based D is extracted from Lanolin and then re-natured to become Food Vitamin D

Sunlight:

Vitamin D is most readily sourced from UVB rays of sunlight which can be a challenge during winter months. It is not the easiest vitamin to source from food, but here is a list of foods rich in Vitamin D. It is also wise to add a food-based supplement to your diet and a few words on that at the end

Recommend foods:

- Mushrooms: Portabello and Maitake are the best, especially if grown in sunlight

- Oily fish: Those with the highest Vitamin D content are salmon, swordfish and trout

- Fish roe:  Rich in Vitamin D levels, but not great if you are on a diet, they are quite high in calories

- Fortified cereals: Vitamin D is often added but check the label for nasties like sugar

- Tofu: A good option for vegetarians

- Dairy products: Often fortified with Vitamin D but not recommended to consume too much milk

- Eggs: The yolk in particular and goose eggs are richer in Vitamin D than chicken eggs

- Dairy alternatives: Soy and almond milk, a good source if you are lactose intolerant

And a couple to avoid: Although cod liver oil is rich in omega 3 and Vitamin D, a word of caution: We create our fish oil from whole, crushed fish with the liver removed. Unfortunately fish livers often contain high levels of toxins and in particular, undesirable heavy metals.

Pork products: Despite their Vitamin D content, pork, especially processed pork, is high in saturated fats which are linked to high blood pressure and heart disease, it is acidic, and is a common cause of intestinal parasites

Vitamin D Supplements: Like virtually all vitamin and mineral supplements, vitamin D is created as a synthetic equivalent to food Vit D. Our Foodstate D is in exactly the same form as that created by nature. Equally important is that ours is the biologically active form with active metabolites, rather than the more common inactive form that get stored in the organs in synthetic form
