The Shocking Truth About The Food We Eat

A 21st century orange looks very similar, if not identical, to a 20th century orange and both are likely to taste just as good as each other but be warned, looks can be deceiving.

An unfortunate fact that has been described in the respected magazine, Scientific American, said that a study “concluded that one would have to eat eight oranges today to derive the same amount of Vitamin A as our grandparents would have gotten from one.”

Whilst food growers and retailers work hard to ensure the produce on supermarket shelves looks incredibly appetising, the truth is they haven’t been so successful at maintaining the nutritional content of the fruit and vegetables which we eat on a daily basis.

Nutritional decline

The unfortunate reality of the state of our food today, is that industrial farming practices have led to a decline in the quality of the soils in which our food is grown. In turn, this degradation of soil quality has resulted in the food on our tables having lower levels of the essential vitamins and minerals that make up a healthy diet.

Every farm and every field is different but on average, the nutritional value of food has declined by about 20% in the past half century. This means that the UK government’s advice about eating “five-a-day” should actually be changed to a recommendation for us all to eat six fruit and veg every day.

To put this in perspective, analyses by the US-based Kushi Institute, found that in the 22 years from 1975 to 1997, calcium levels in a group of 12 fresh vegetables declined by 27% and Vitamin C fell by 30%.

In Britain, the British Food Journal has published studies that show calcium levels falling nearly 20%, iron levels declining 22% and potassium 14% between 1930 and 1980.

The answer is foodstate

The answers to these societal problems are complex and will take decades to solve. Fortunately, for us as individuals, there is one simple solution to the problem (aside eating more fruit and vegetables) and that is for us to supplement our diets with high quality nutritional supplements.

Jersey Foodstate supplements are carefully prepared with natural minerals which are far more easily absorbed into the body than the mineral salts which are used by most high street supplements.

If you’ve never taken a nutritional supplement before, then our Multivitamins and Minerals formula is a great place to start. As an all-round formula, it gives your body the full range of essential nutrients that it needs to remain healthy and strong, regardless of the declining quality of the food we eat.

As well as the multivitamins formula, Jersey Foodstate has a wide range of formulations for the different stages in life and a range of health conditions. Take a look at our store to find out more.
