We hear all the time about acid and alkaline diets – as a general rule the healthiest food and drink to consume are those that are alkaline-forming
Coffee or Lemon Juice? If you start your day with a strong coffee then you may want to consider a strong lemon juice instead. I’m not suggesting you can’t have a coffee later, but starting your day with coffee creates an instant acidic overload on the body’s digestion. Lemon juice however, is very alkaline-forming, in fact it is very healthy in many respects:
-
Lemon juice alleviates constipation
-
Lemon extract kills some types of Intestinal parasites, especially roundworms
-
Lemon dissolves gallstones due to its limonene content
-
Some holistic clinics use lemons to boost the Immune system and suggest that they help prevent many cancers due to limonene content
-
Lemon juice drunk early morning improves the function of liver metabolism
-
Lemons support the respiratory system and research demonstrates that lemon juice alleviates some of the symptoms of the common cold
Directions: Squeeze half a lemon in to warm water and drink before you consume anything else. If you have heartburn or indigestion, try lemon juice in warm water instead of antacid tablets
And Now For Breakfast: Try a freshly made smoothie with our Organic Pea Protein and you won’t feel hungry until lunchtime. Pea Protein (from the Chinese yellow pea) is the richest plant-based protein available. We have some recipes on our website, but my usual is as follows:
-
Grind a handful of mixed nuts and seeds in to a smooth powder
-
Add berries, ripe banana, apple or pear, pomegranate seeds, passion fruit
-
Add heaped tablespoon of organic pea protein, natural yoghurt, fresh ginger, a squeeze of organic agave syrup, water and ice
Blend for 60 seconds and enjoy a truly healthy breakfast packed with healthy protein, fats, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants
And you won’t feel hungry until lunchtime!
